Step-by-Step process of getting glasses/contact lenses

  • Pop in for a free screening where we can see if you need corrective vision or not.
  • If so we will¬†book you an appointment for a full examination.
  • On the day of your appointment please bring the following
    • Medical Aid Card
    • Drivers License
    • Have breakfast/lunch to ensure stable blood sugar levels
    • Old glasses
  • If you are a new patient please come 10 minutes prior to your appointment to fill out a card with your information, or else follow this link and send us your patient form details before you get here:¬†https://optomsucro.co.za/patient-form/
  • Pre-tests are then done by one of our friendly front-line staff. These tests include:
    • Fundus photos are taken: this a photo of the back of the eye where the optometrist can determine if you have any eye problems or not.
    • Screening of your eyes: this is to determine if you have a script and then if corrective vision is necessary.
  • After the pre-tests are done the Optometrist take you through to the bug test room where the full examination of your eyes takes place. She will then determine what corrective vision you need and will also determine what solution is best for your scenario. Here she will discuss the different possibilities and together you will decide which will be the best solution for you.
  • After the full test you will then chose a frame taking into consideration the following factors:
    • What lenses you need
    • What suits your face
    • What suits your lifestyle
    • What suits your budget
  • Next your lenses are ordered from one of our labs, which are situated in Mpumamlanga and Gauteng, to which we send the frames for the lenses to be fitted.
  • Depending on what lenses you need our production process timeline is as follows:
    • Single Vision Lenses: 5-7 working days
    • Bi-Focal Lenses: 7-10 working days
    • Multi-Focal Lenses: 10-15 working days
  • If the lab has your script in stock the process is alot faster.
  • Once your glasses arrive back at Sucro, the Optometrist does a quality check to see if the lenses and frames are of best quality.
  • You collect your new glasses and if any adjustments need to be made, we do them for you in store.
  • With new glasses (lenses) it takes your brain about 2 weeks to adjust.
